An announcement is “imminent” of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s move of 3,000 workers from its Southfield offices to downtown Detroit, a person familiar with the details said today.

Many of the 3,000 workers will occupy space in the 500 and 600 towers of the Renaissance Center, while others may move into space in BCBSM’s existing campus on the east side of downtown.

The move promises to be a boost for the downtown market, which has suffered substantial office vacancy rates in the wake of the nationwide recession.
