PONTIAC, Mich. — Pontiac police believe a dispute on Facebook may be responsible for a fatal crash Wednesday on Woodward Avenue.

Police said Alesha Abernathy, 21, was killed when the Ford Taurus she was driving collided with a construction-type truck at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Rapid Street around 2 p.m.

A 20-year-old passenger in the car with Abernathy was also critically injured and is recovering at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital.

The truck’s driver was not seriously hurt.

Police said a 23-year-old woman in a third vehicle had been chasing Abernathy northbound and rammed into her car, causing it to be propelled into the truck.

An officer in the area witnessed the crash and tracked down the 23-year-old driver after she fled the scene.

She is currently in police custody. No charges have been filed.

Police said Abernathy and the 23-year-old had been engaged in some sort of disagreement on Facebook, and that it might have been the catalyst for the road incident.
