DETROIT (WXYZ)- A Detroit City Council debate over the crackdown on the city’s strip clubs took a touchy detour.

Council president Charles Pugh and Pastor Marvin Winans Sr. squared off over the issue Tuesday.

The Detroit News reports that Rev. Winans, who leads the Perfecting Church in Detroit, was critical of council’s move to ease the proposed ordinance and remarked that club owners don’t live in the city.

That’s when Pugh called out Winans–who doesn’t live in the city either. Winans took exception, insisting his church is in Detroit and he’s part of the city.

Pugh says he respects Winans’ position on the clubs, but believes opponents should focus on patrolling for crime outside of them rather than legislating what happens inside.
