Detroit Public Schools will offer an expanded summer school program for students in all grades at nearly every school.

Summer Academy 2010 will focus on preparing students to do well on MEAP assessments, to be promoted or to graduate. It will also offer orientation for students entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and high school. Instruction will begin on Tuesday June 22, 2010 and end on Thursday July 29, 2010.

Instruction will include daily lessons based in literacy and mathematics for each grade. Strategies and materials will be consistent with the district-wide texts, author/literature studies and best teaching practices. The lessons will provide for direct whole class and small group instruction. Opportunities to integrate technology, writing and literacy through cultural arts will be included in the program.

There is no cost to Title I eligible District students or their families for Summer Academy 2010. Out-of-district students may enroll at a cost of $250 per class, paid in the form of a money order.
