Here’s a story to watch in coming days:
“Tiger Woods is poised to make a shock return to competitive golf in a fortnight at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, “Australia’s Herald Sun is reporting.
The news has naturally got lots of other media outlets’ attention.
The Arizona Daily Star, for example, writes that “PGA Tour and Match Play tournament officials said this morning they know nothing about Woods’ return to golf.”
Then it adds this:
“We don’t know anything officially yet, but wouldn’t that be nice?” said Wade Dunagan, executive director of the Match Play event. “It would mean we’d get Tiger on his return two years in a row. Very cool.”
The tournament is set for Feb. 17-21 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.
The PGA and its sponsors would certainly love to have Woods back. As Frank posted in December, by one estimate the golf superstar’s departure from the scene following the explosive news about his extra-marital affairs has cost the companies he deals with up to $12 billion in market value.
