Radio One is celebrating Black History Month by honoring local modern day history makers.

Today political issues and pop culture cross paths creating a space for more young people to get involved. Inkster native, Jewell Jones is one of those young people. In 2015 he made history as the youngest person to ever sit on the City Council of Inkster. But he didn’t stop there.

His great work as a Councilman launched him into even greater success as he was selected to be the Democratic Nominee in the 11th State House District after an amazing campaign in the summer of 2016. Jones then went on to win the General Election, becoming the youngest State Representative in Michigan’s history, as well as the youngest lawmaker in the country.

He has since been re-elected and remains one of the youngest lawmakers in the nation. Jones attended The University of Michigan-Dearborn where he was a dual major studying Political Sciences and Business Studies. Jones keeps a busy schedule as he is also a U.S. Army Reserved Training Corps Cadet, a member of The Michigan National Guard, and a Senior Deacon as his church

Jones has broke records and has a passion for engaging more people in democratic citizenship, cultural enrichment, and sustainable business development making him a “Modern Day History Maker.” We can’t wait to see what Jewell will accomplish next.
