Congratulations to Detroiter Emma Lampkin, RN, BSN, a Sinai-Grace nurse for 28 years, who was nominated for the prestigious Nightgale Award for education. Nightingale Award recognizes hard-working, highly skilled, caring nurses who play such a vital role in our health care delivery system.
As a Sinai-Grace Nurse Educator, Emma contributes to quality patient care through education of our 700+ patient care services team. Her passion for education makes her a true advocate for nurses. Emma’s positive, vivacious personality sets the tone for a safe learning environment. Known to give out her personal cell phone number for staff members and new nurses to call if they get stressed out or are uncertain, she is often seen coming in early and leaving late in order to help them with whatever they need. With a spirit of coaching and mentoring, Emma is continuously reassuring and supporting nurses to help them be their best.
Emma serves on the planning committee for Nurses Week, and for the last several years has served as moderator for the DMC’s Nurse’s Week education program. This annual program is attended by several hundred nurses who often comment on how much they enjoy Emma’s enthusiasm and energy – she makes them proud to be nurses.
Emma doesn’t just excel in working with nurses and physicians; she is also an expert at teaching and forging relationships with the Patient Care Associates (PCAs), and serves as a champion for them. She encourages PCAs to develop their skills and to go back to school whether in health care or another field.
In addition to her many duties at the hospital, Emma works with Sinai-Grace’s Community Relations Department to provide medical screenings at area health fairs and to help bring health resources to the community.
Emma’s coworkers and supervisor agree that her outlook is always positive and she leads by example. She is always upbeat and has the ability to motivate people to get on board with what needs to be done.
Sinai-Grace thanks Emma for her tireless work to help the patient care team learn and grow continuously.
This week, DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital celebrates both National Nurses & Hospital Week. Sinai-Grace is proud of its team of nearly 3,000 employees, physicians and volunteers who help care for more than 100,000 patients every year. We recognize and thank the Sinai-Grace team for the hard work, dedication and compassion that they demonstrate to our community each and every day.
