With a positive, can-do attitude and a big smile, Sharon presents at hundreds of community events yearly to increase awareness of violence and bullying among youth. So when persistent bullying led a Detroit student to commit suicide, a local teacher reached out to Sharon for help. With genuine compassion and care, Sharon counseled and supported the deceased students’ friends, helping them cope with the traumatic experience. Trauma situations like this led Sharon to develop effective, evidence-based outreach programs on trauma-related topics, including bullying, texting and driving, and fall prevention for seniors. Sharon willingly shared her programs with other local hospitals to touch even more lives in the community.

Here at Sinai-Grace, Sharon initiated the Surgery/Trauma Department’s holiday Adopt-A-Family program, where she coordinated gift purchases with colleagues to help a local less fortunate family and wrapped all the holiday gifts. Then on Christmas morning, Sharon and her husband personally rented a trailer to deliver the gifts, spreading holiday cheer with the large family.

For her dedication to keeping Detroiter’s safe and supported, Sharon was not only selected as a Tenet Hero, but also inducted into the Tenet Heroes Hall of Fame on April 4, 2017. Sharon – along with five other Tenet employees nationwide – was selected from more than 138 nominees for delivering exemplary community service.
