The Obamas won’t be going alone. They will be joined by Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto.
While they are in Liberia, FLOTUS will meet with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first elected female head of state in Africa, and Pinto will later moderate a discussion with local teenage girls. And during their stay in Marrakech, Streep will lead a discussion with teen girls.
CNN will be following the actresses as the network plans to document the trip for an upcoming documentary that will air later this fall. They film will largely focus on the difficulties that these young women and girls face when trying to access education and the gender oppression they endure. According to the newspaper, two-thirds of children in Liberia are not in school and in Morocco only 14 percent of girls are enrolled in high school.
After their Africa trip, Obama and her daughters will travel to Spain on Wednesday, where FLOTUS will meet with Queen Letizia and give a speech about the Let Girls Learn initiative as well.
