Wayne County’s Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness is joining the City of Highland Park to notify citizens and business operators that a BOIL WATER ADVISORY has been issued for the system effective February 3, 2016 that will be in effect until further notice.
The Highland Park Water system experienced low water pressure conditions where the quality of water could not be guaranteed. As a precaution, a BOIL WATER ADVISORY has been issued and will remain in effect until bacterial samples from the drinking water distribution system are tested by the City of Highland Park and proven free from coliform bacteria.
Wayne County’s Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness is issuing this advisory as a precaution because of the possibility that bacteria may have entered the water system.
We recommend that water used for drinking and food preparation be boiled for at least five (5) minutes at a rolling boil and let it cool before using.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, coffee, pop or other beverages, and preparing food until further notice.
Food establishment facilities should follow the instructions in the “Emergency Action Plans for Retail Food Establishments” guide, or cease operation. These booklets were provided by regulatory agency officials during previous visits.
