Americans around the country were glued to their television sets Tuesday to catch the premiere of FX’s The People Vs. OJ Simpson: An American Crime Story. For those of us who lived through the trial, the dramatic retelling was as emotional as it was interesting.

The 10-part mini-series features an all-star cast including Cuba Gooding Jr. as Simpson, Courtney B. Vance as Johnny Cochran, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian and Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark.

Clark stopped by The View Wednesday to talk about how she felt about the series, telling the hosts that it’s “very painful” for her to watch.

I can’t watch it the way most people do. For me it’s reliving a nightmare, it’s awful. Every bit of it is awful and hard for me,” she said. “It’s a painful experience and yet I have to tell you it’s a measure of how good it is that it hurts that much because that tells you and they’re getting the big stuff so right. I’m super impressed.

But while the show was full of great performances, no matter where you stand on the issue, it brought up crazy memories of the racially-charged case often dubbed “the trial of the century.”
