Instead of shopping on Black Friday, hundreds of people are protesting in front of Chicago’s most popular stores on Michigan Ave. on behalf of police brutality victim, Laquan McDonald.

Following the release of the video footage which shows former officer, Jason Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16-times, Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder.

While this may seem like a major step towards justice for McDonald, theres a innate fear that the cased won’t be handled properly. According to CNN, protestors are livid that the city has sat on this incriminating footage for over a year, specifically 400 days, allegedly in attempt to stage a cover up.

Rev. Jesse Jackson, his Rainbow PUSH Coalition and U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush are spearheading the demand for mayor, Rahm Emanuel, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy and state’s attorney Anita Alvarez to resign from their positions.

“Who knew about the tape and who covered it up for 13 months?” asked Jackson. “The police leadership has to change as well as its infrastructure,” he said before the march along Miracle Mile which blocked the entrances to stores including Tiffany & Co., Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms.

The NAACP and Chicago Urban League are also requesting that the Justice Department step in and investigate the McDonald case in the same way Attorney General Loretta Lynch launched an excessive use of force investigation following the death of Freddie Gray.

“The state’s attorney has no credibility,” Jackson said. “This was strategically covered up. As they marched on Michigan Avenue: Rush also added, “Our fight for justice will not stop.”

Stay tuned for the latest developments in the case.
