New Study Says Your Race Affects The Quality Of Your Sleep

Over 6,000 research participants were surveyed and African Americans were five times more likely to suffer from inadequate durations of sleep, meaning less than six hours. Optimal sleep is seven to nine hours. People who aren’t well rested have a higher risk for hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity and reduced quality of life. Dr. Xiaoli Chen of the University of Minnesota Chen cited social and emotional stress associated with family and job demands, financial stress, and discrimination as factors that might negatively impact sleep. Obama Laughs At Ben Carson And His Military Strategy 

Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson said he could eliminate the terrorist organization, ISIS “fairly easily”. In an interview with Good Morning America, when asked about Carson’s comments, Obama laughed then reprimanded Carson for belittling the work of the military, “…I’m down in the situation room talking with people who have worked in these regions and run major military operations…and they don’t think it’s easy, then it’s probably not easy.” [The Huffington Post]

More HBCU’s Turn To Online Degree Programs

College enrollment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities has decreased within the past decade. Several HBCU’s are looking to retain the interest of students of color by offering online programs. Johnny Taylor, the president of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which supports most of the country’s public HBCUs has established a partnership with the online institution, University of Phoenix to allow schools to build their own infrastructure and include online courses unique to that particular school. Mariah Carey’s Most Popular Song Is Now A Children’s Book

The legendary singer can now add ‘author’ to her list of accomplishments. Her holiday song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has been illustrated in a children’s book. In the story, all the mini-Mariah wants is a puppy. “I am so proud of the song’s impact as it continues to create memories for fans each year.
