County Executive meets with elected officials; Outlines expectations while under Consent Agreement;
Launches Consent Agreement information page on County website
DETROIT – Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans this morning hosted an informational meeting with the County’s elected leaders to discuss the requirements the County must follow while under the Consent Agreement.
Wayne County’s Commission Chair Gary Woronchak, Clerk Cathy M. Garret, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy, Treasurer Raymond Wojtowicz, Register of Deeds Bernard J. Youngblood and Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon were in attendance at the meeting hosted in the Guardian Building.
After the meeting, County Executive Evans issued his first Consent Agreement Order to County employees. It directs compliance with the Consent Agreement and outlines protocols for notices of non-compliance or breach. Authority is provided to the Wayne County Executive under Section 3(a) of the Consent Agreement and Public Act 436 to issue Consent Agreement Orders.
A new page dedicated to Consent Agreement information was also launched today on the County’s website. The address is www.waynecounty.com/mb/consent-agreement.htm. County officials called the web portal a continuation of the administration’s commitment to transparency.
“The purpose of issuing this order is to ensure that County employees, elected officials, along with our contractors understand what is required while the Consent Agreement is in place,” said County Executive Evans. “It is important for everyone to understand what to expect as we move together through this process to restore our financial health.
The Consent Agreement provides the tools needed to help us improve our finances, but it does not prevent us from continuing to fulfill our obligations to the people of Wayne County.
The services provided daily by the County are unchanged. Our parks are still available for the public to enjoy, the sheriff and prosecutor are still pursuing criminals, our public services department is still repairing roads, and the leadership the people elected is still at the helm of Wayne County.”
Excerpts from Consent Agreement Order indicate:
- All Wayne County contracts or agreements must include the requirements of Public Act 436 and the Consent Agreement.
- All Wayne County employees, elected officials or entities that have contracts with the County must share with the County Executive any potential breach of the Consent Agreement.
- Before any contract is entered into that is considered debt under the terms of the Consent Agreement, a copy must be provided to the County’s CFO for approval before being finalized.
