It was back in June, that 2015 quarterback Tyree Jackson of Mona Shores (Mich.) received his first division one offer from the University of Buffalo and after visiting Buffalo on Saturday with his family, Jackson has made the decision to verbally commit to Buffalo. He announced the news on Twitter.

Jackson chose Buffalo over Ferris State (D2), who he also held an offer from along with the other schools he was receiving interest from like Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Kent State, and Miami (Ohio).
While some may be surprised that he decided to commit before his senior, I must say I’m not surprised that Jackson committed to Buffalo early. When I spoke him to last month about his offer from Buffalo, he stated that he wanted to commit to a school before his senior season but only if he found a school that was a good fit for him both academically and athletically.
“I would like to commit before my senior year, but it really all depends on who has offered me and on what happens with my upcoming college visits, camps, etc.” Jackson replied to me during an interview last month. “Although I am undecided on college major right now, academics and the coaching staff are the two main things I’m looking for in a school that I will commit to. At the end of the day, I’m just blessed to be presented with the opportunity to play division one football.”
Since he has verbally committed to Buffalo, he apparently feels Buffalo is a good fit, which is once again not that surprising because he had nothing but great things to say about Buffalo when I interview him last month and he still has nothing but great things to say about Buffalo.
‘I chose to commit to Buffalo, because the I loved the coaches, the players, the academics, and the campus.” Jackson said. “They have a nice and grand campus that is huge but at the same time very easy to get around. I definitely could see myself succeeding in their great offense under the guidance of great offensive coordinator Alex Woods. Plus I like the fact that they have success in developing and sending players to the NFL and that they also have good academic success.”
For those Buffalo football fans who may be a little worried that Jackson could possibly de-commit, if he receives more offers, don’t be, Jackson says he is firmly committed to Buffalo.
“I feel great decision about my decision to commit to Buffalo and I am firmly committed to them.” Jackson replied. “Coming into Buffalo, people can count on me to be a great teammate, a hard-working person, and a film junkie, who is always looking for ways to get better!”
In case you haven’t figured it out, this is great pick-up for the Buffalo Bulls. In my opinion, the senior-to-be is arguably one of the most underrated players in the state of Michigan.
At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Jackson already has the skill set of division one quarterback and you can bet that Buffalo is more than aware of this intelligent quarterback who has a rocket for an arm and great touch to make the toughest throws look easy.
As a sophomore, he threw for 1,800 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. Then last season, as junior, he helped to lead Mona Shores to a 7-2 season and qualify for the playoffs for the first time in school history, all while throwing for over 2,500 yards, 31 touchdowns and rushing for three touchdowns. Keep in mind, that Jackson is just as impressive in the classroom as he is on the field. As of right now he has a career grade point average of 3.2 and he recently received a 21 on the ACT.
Now that he has committed to Buffalo, Jackson says all of his focus is on his senior year and leading his team to state championship.
“A chance to play at the next level and get a free education is second to none and my dream. At this point, I feel truly blessed to have receive an opportunity from great school like Buffalo.” Jackson said. “Now that I have committed, my focus is on my team and helping to lead them to a state championship.”
I don’t know about you but from the beginning, I said whoever is lucky enough to gain a commitment from him when the time comes will have gained a great student athlete and a great young man. I’m standing by that statement, Buffalo has truly gained great student-athlete and even better young man in Tyree Jackson. If you don’t want to take my word for it, just look at what Jackson’s future Buffalo Bull teammates are saying.
