7 Action News has learned that former Detroit mayoral candidate Tom Barrow is expected to ask for a recount of the votes for the Detroit mayoral primary election.
Barrow’s campaign manager says he is planning on filing a petition for a manual recount of the August 6 primary election.
Tom Barrow made headlines months ago after challenging Detroit mayoral candidate Mike Duggan’s fitness to appear on the August ballot due to election law residency requirements. The move eventually forced Duggan to run as a write-in candidate.
On primary election day, unofficial results show that Barrow received less than 4 percent of the vote. Duggan snagged the most votes in the primary. He and Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon are set to face-off on the November ballot.
The Wayne County Board of Canvassers is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to certify the Detroit election results.
