Louis Delmas believes the preseason is important.

Just don’t expect to see him play in any of the Lions games this summer.

After missing the team’s preseason opener last Friday, Delmas sat out his third consecutive practice Tuesday.

“Is it important for me to get out there? Yes. But is it wise? Right now, I don’t think so,” he told reporters.

Delmas missed all four preseason games last year, and Jim Schwartz said Sunday it’s important for the safety to hit the field, but used last year as an example.

“Last year, he didn’t,” Schwartz said of Delmas’ preseason participation. “The first game he was Week 5, or whatever it was, against Philly. He played well in that game. But, it’s not an ideal situation.”

Delmas dressed for last week’s warmups, but the plan all along was to for him to sit out the game.

“We certainly want every player getting some hitting in, getting some game experience in,” Schwartz said. “Even though Lou doesn’t need it from a learning the schemes standpoint.”
