A young man is shot at a Detroit gas station and the triggerman is still on the loose. Witnesses got a good look at him and say he was waiting for his victim to show up.
The victim is still alive, but he is in critical condition, and we are told it does not look like he will survive.
“There’s a lot of blood and there was the screaming and it got ugly,” said witness Whitney Walker.
It was 5:00 Thursday afternoon. A young man riding a bright green, trick bike way too small for someone his size was staking out the corner of Seven Mile and Wyoming near a BP gas station on the city’s west side. He was armed with a gun.
With a blue hoodie covering his face and head, his sights were set on a man inside a silver Land Rover, a man who police say had several baggies of marijuana in his pocket.
However, the suspect was not there to rob him and what went down, the victim never saw it coming.
“His girlfriend and three other women were in the car,” Walker said. “He had tapped on the window to get their attention to talk to him, and they talked to him and turned around… when the guy on the bike came and shot him.”
He rode off. The two gunshots were aimed at the head of a 20-year-old Detroit man. We are told he was just weeks away from joining the service. HIs mother is a retired Detroit Police dispatcher.
“Immediately I wanted to see where I could help, but as I was holding the pressure on him and I had my hand on his chest… I felt him take a turn, and… that adrenaline went from help to wow, wow,” said Walker.
“We think that the two individuals, the victim and the suspect, knew each other. We think there may have been a personal dispute going on between the two of them at the time,” said Detroit Police Second Deputy Chief John Roach.
Which may explain why the suspect knew exactly where to find his victim.
“There’s a possibility that there may have been some communication between the two to where the individual on the bike may have been able to know his whereabouts and target him in this fashion,” Roach said.
Officers are currently searching for the suspect. Police believe he may be in his late teens or early twenties. They are not saying why the two men were feuding, but sources tell us it may have been about the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.
