The auto industry is rebounding, selling the most cars last year since 2008. The momentum is expected to carry through this year and auto makers are hanging out the help wanted signs.For those who think of the car companies as old and stodgy, think again. If you want a auto job you’d better be social media savvy with Twitter, Facebook and Linked-in. We got used to idea that this day would never come but the auto industry is back and hiring. Today Ford announcing it would hire 2,200 new white collar, full time workers nationwide this year. This comes on top of the earlier announcements of nearly 2,400 blue collar jobs that will go online by 2015. The four major categories Ford will look to hire in are product development, engineering, manufacturing and information technology. Ford’s President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs says this is all about growth.
“We’re looking for people with skills like hybrid technology, software development and to support the new technologies coming forward to support all that great new product coming. All you have to do is look around the auto show floor and you can see how the industry is changing. A 5-year-old car anymore is as moldy as month old bread. The new Fiesta and Escape are brand new. Everyone is refreshing each vehicle every three years or so now. And that refresh rate’s going to continue into the future and that’s why we need the kind of talent we’re looking for and that’s why we’re committed to staying on our ford plan using global platforms and having the freshest product out there so we can continue to grow our business,” said Hinrichs.
This really means the auto industry is leading whatever comeback the national economy is experiencing.
Ford is not alone, GM is also hiring 1,000 white collar workers for its Atlanta area operations.
