Funny man Mike Epps (“Next Friday”) has been given quite an important role in an upcoming biopic as an influential comedian.

According to THR’s reports yesterday, he is set to play comedian Richard Pryor in “Nina,” a drama tracing jazz vocalist/pianist Nina Simone’s rise to fame, also focuses on her relationship with her manager, Clifton Henderson.

The film also stars Zoe Saldana (“Colombiana”) as Nina, David Oyelowo (“The Last King of Scotland”) as Henderson, and will be directed by Cynthia Mort.

This is a huge opportunity for Epps to deliver a stellar performance, and maybe get him more notoriety and acclaim to help boost his career.

He is constantly cast as comedic relief, and in minor roles, but he has never really proven he was capable than anything more than that so hopefully he seizes this opportunity.
