April 2012 – The Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) will be presenting a resource fair in Detroit on Saturday, April 14, 2012, to assist clients and former clients who have had their cash assistance (Family Independence Program, or FIP) benefits close out due to time limits.

The fair will take place at the Detroit Rescue Mission, 3606 E. Forest, Detroit, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A number of key agencies will be on hand to personally help and counsel those who are looking for information, including:

  • Michigan Department of Human Services
  • Detroit Rescue Mission
  • United Way
  • Michigan Works!
  • DTE Energy
  • Consumers Energy
  • Focus: Hope
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Adult Well Being Agency
  • Gleaners Community Food Bank
  • Michigan State Housing Development Authority

These agencies and their representatives will be able to offer advice and/or assistance for a wide variety of needs, including temporary housing, educational resources, energy assistance, employment and training, and more.

There are many options and opportunities available for clients and their families. Individuals whose FIP cases closed out for reaching time limits — or who are about to transition out of cash assistance due to time limits — are encouraged to attend this important resource fair and get their questions answered.
