Buyers beware! With the holiday shopping season quickly approaching, consumers need to be aware of a scam hitting the online shopping market; fake iPads.

In July, nearly 18,000 fake Apple iPads and Android devices were available for purchase on 23 e-commerce sites, according to MarketMonitor Inc.

The bogus tablets are said to have a fake Apple logo, don’t work as well as the original and have no warranty. Consumers are discovering the iPads are fake when they are unable to connect to iTunes or work with many Apple apps.

The majority of the knockoff iPads were being sold by websites based in China and are priced about 30% below retail.
