The Detroit News- Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s new fund-raising website was up for only a few hours Wednesday before it was shut down by a suspected hacker attack.

Web users who tried to visit www.FriendsofKwame.com Wednesday afternoon were redirected to the former Detroit mayor’s page on Twitter. The site was back up by Wednesday night.

Mike Paul, Kilpatrick’s New York City spokesman, said he suspected hackers shut down the site by using programs that bombarded it with excessive traffic.

If hacking is confirmed, federal authorities will be notified and the perpetrators will find themselves “in handcuffs,” Paul said.

Kilpatrick launched the site as he faces a possible return to jail over court-ordered restitution.

Wayne Circuit Judge David Groner is to sentence Kilpatrick May 25 after finding he hid assets that could have been applied to his $1 million court-ordered restitution.
