Growing up Mickey, Daffy and Goofy were untouchables. They were the characters that helped you escape as a child and always made you feel safe. When I was afford the opportunity to sail on the brand new Disney Dream I first thought, now I am all grown up how can I really have fun without my three kids. Well, you DEFINITELY can have fun without the kids on such a voyage if you so choose. There was the AuquaDuck Water Coaster, which is high-powered water jet powered rollercoaster at sea that takes you 12 feet over the side of the massive 130,000 ton ship with the ocean below.
Of course if I had the kids with me I would have dropped them off at the Disney Oceaneer Lab, a decked out fun place for kids filled with maps, an interactive floor that engages the kids in movement. For the teens there is the Chill-Out Zones for Tweens and Teen where the 11 – 13 year-olds can be entertained by karaoke and other high tech entertainment and bonding. The 14 to 17 year-olds can create videos, play computer games, or enjoy a private sunbathing and deck games.
OK, back to ME the ADULT. The DISTRICT is an area for of nightlife featuring 5 themed sophisticated bars and lounges for guest that are 18 and up. The next morning you can chill in the full service Senses Spa & Salon that offers 17 private therapy rooms, many services and a 2,500 square foot gym. So all-in-all the grandeur 1115 feet, 1,458 crew, 1,220 rooms and 4,000 passenger ship the Disney Dream has something for everyone and I highly recommend it for a family or some time away with the girls.
The selection of 29-year-old Jennifer Hudson as the ship’s godmother has special significance, although she’d been performing since childhood, Jennifer began her career in 2003 as a singer on the Disney Wonder, a stepping stone that led to “American Idol,” an Academy Award and a Grammy Award. Talk about a dream come true! Check out the video highlights from the Christening Celebration below!
