A clerk at a gas station in Oak Park was shot Sunday morning during an attempted robbery and was scheduled to undergo surgery for his injuries, said Oak Park Police Sgt. Todd Barthel.

According to police, a man and woman, both thought to be in their 20s, entered the Mobil station on 9 Mile Road near Coolidge about 8 a.m. The man got into an altercation with the clerk and, at some point, the clerk was shot and both suspects left the store.

Witnesses in the parking lot told police they saw the man and woman get into a red or burgundy-colored sedan and drive south on Coolidge.

Police found the clerk lying on the floor behind the cash register. Barthel said police don’t think any money was stolen.
