Monday the Auburn Hills Police Department will be assisting school administrators and teachers at Avondale High School in searching book bags and purses as students enter the school.

The operation is being carried out at the request of the school administration and in full coordination with school officials.

The search is prompted after school employees found a note written on furniture in a class room. The note indicated that there was going to be a bomb at the school on Monday, March 22. The search is being done as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the students and staff.

If identified, the person who made the threat could be charged with making a false bomb threat. Making a bomb threat is a felony and if convicted the person could be sentenced to up to four years in prison. It is possible this person may be charged under the antiterrorism act.
