“The GM Foundation’s $50,000 donation to Forgotten Harvest for ‘Help 4 Oklahoma’ is just the first step in our support for those impacted by the tornadoes,” said Selim Bingol, GM’s global vice president of Communications and Public Policy and the chairman of the GM Foundation. “Our employees want to help and will volunteer locally at Forgotten Harvest, and we will engage our plants and other facilities across the U.S. to collect food to help this effort.”

To implement “Help 4 Oklahoma,” Forgotten Harvest is partnering with the GM Foundation, Chevrolet, Art Van, Local 4, WJR AM 760 and The Detroit Media Partnership.

“We will be collecting shelf-stable foods, and medical and hygiene products for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma,” said Susan Goodell,” CEO of Forgotten Harvest. “Vehicles will be instrumental in the implementation of this effort and we thank Chevrolet for this generous donation.”

Since 2004, the GM Foundation has provided more than $7 million to global disaster relief efforts.

The Foundation is also a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program to ensure that the Red Cross has funds on hand to provide immediate relief when disaster strikes.

Dawn Simmons, 46, of Belleville, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of false pretenses ($1,000 – $20,000), and one count of fraudulent access to a computer, both five year felonies.

As part of the plea agreement, Simmons is required to pay $19,832.74 in restitution to the state.
The Michigan Attorney General’s Office said from September 2009 through February 2012, Simmons abused her position as an eligibility specialist to process false claims for assistance in her brother’s name, who she listed as a resident at her home address. Investigation revealed the brother never lived at the address.

Simmons filed the claims on co-workers’ computers without their knowledge after logging in with their usernames and passwords. Simmons ultimately collected $19,832.74 in fraudulently obtained benefits, which she used for to pay rent and utilities at her apartment.
Simmons was placed on unpaid leave following the filing of criminal charges on December 12, 2012.
Simmons is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26.

Many people think that 20-somethings don’t seem to be focused on the future life we have to live, instead we’re just living for moment. I could see this as being partly true. I see it around me, a lot. No ambition, carelessly drifting young women and men who think that their 20′s allow them time to “figure it out.” But with everyone sharing their typically negative opinions on 20-somethings aka millenials, many of us are left wondering–why does everyone have so much to say about the lives of 20-somethings?

This relaxed attitude towards being a young 20-something is leading a lot of people out there following Jay-Z’s misinformed lyrics that 30 is the new 20. According to Meg, it’s not. “30 is not the new 20. Claim your adulthood, get some identity capital. Use your weak ties, pick your family. Don’t be defined by what you didn’t know or didn’t do. You’re defining your life right now,” Meg urges the unambitious bunch of 20-somethings who think their time is unlimited.

Meg claims that this isn’t strictly her opinion, these are the facts. She threw out statistics to help put things into perspective. The “aha” moment many adults are searching for typically doesn’t happen until your 30′s. Those “aha” moments help us define who we are and how we’ll live our lives and they typically don’t happen in our 20′s. So there’s one way your 20′s are more significant than you think. They’re leading you to a moment in your life that will set the standard for where you’ll go in life.

As a 28-year-old career woman, I feel as if I’ve had several mini “aha” moments that have helped me navigate the beginnings of my career. While I agree with Meg Jay for the most part, I’m aware that not every 20-something is not an entitled and lazy millennial, idling in a career waiting room. Some of us are well on our way in our careers and focused on becoming as grown as we can before we hit that intimidating milestone that is our 30′s. Many of us aren’t just “wasting our time” with pointless mates, dead-end careers and constant partying. Some of us are focused, but still aware that there’s time to make abrupt changes if we so choose. Everything works well with a balance.

Meg goes on to say that the the first 10 years of your career has an impact on the money you’ll earn. Those first 10 years of your career are usually in your 20′s and those years help to serve as a foundation. What type of foundation would a 20-something have who thinks they have another 10 years to “get it together?”

Meg claims that your 20′s are essential for adult development. Some people call it an extended adolescence, but it is truly a defining age for being grown. The people who are telling us 20-something that we have more time to focus and shape our lives are robbing us of the trivial years we need to be placing our lives in order. This has caused an entire culture of 20-somethings to believe that these 10 years will magically place us where we need to be as adults in our 30′s. That’s just not the case.

What happens when you wake up at 30 and realize your 20′s was an extension of your teenage years?

Here are Meg’s tips for 20-somethings:

1. “Forget about having an identity crisis; get some identity capital.” You should be doing something that adds value to who you are. Really take this time you have to discover what your true interests and passions more. This will help guide you in a desirable direction of your life.
2. “The urban tribe is overrated.” Friends are great, but your “weak ties”—friends of friends of friends—are where the opportunities are going to come from. Expand your circle and NETWORK!
3. “The time to start picking your family is now.” Jay says that the best time to start working on your marriage is before you have one. You don’t have to be married by 25, but stop wasting time and look for what you want now.

Well, a Paris company named “Le Slip Francais” has a solution for you. The company has created underwear for men that have a sweet-smelling scent.

The underwear will be filled with micro-capsules that are filled with homemade perfume. According to the company, when a man moves, the underwear will release the perfume.

Reportedly, Amos was upset that the dog used the bathroom in the house and that sent him into rage. However,  Amos’ defense claims the death was an accident.

Amos is facing up to ten years in prison.

I think about Mississippi.

The Magnolia State is the nation’s poorest. Thirty-seven percent of its residents are black. Next to the District of Columbia, it has the highest percentage of black people of any state.

And it has only one abortion clinic.

Even that one clinic, Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization, based in Jackson, is hanging on by a thread. A state law, passed last year, was aimed at shutting it down by requiring doctors at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at hospitals; something that can be difficult to obtain if most of the hospitals are religiously affiliated and, as clinic owner Diane Derzis told the Associated Press, if those hospitals don’t want protesters outside.

A federal judge blocked the clinic’s closing until the fate of the law is decided. But if Mississippi is successful in shutting the doors of its sole legal provider, it could wind up creating an underground market for countless unsafe and illegal ones.

Illegal ones – like the ones who’ll exploit thousands of poor black women there who might seek an abortion, but who can’t afford a ride to another state.

Illegal ones – who’ll view desperate black women through the same opportunistic lens in which predatory lenders view poor black people who can’t get bank loans or access to lines of credit.

Illegal ones – who’ll treat poor, black women just like Gosnell did, except worse.

This week Gosnell, 72, was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing three babies who were born alive by severing their spines with scissors. He was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of a patient; according to prosecutors, he heavily dosed up patients, most of whom were seeking unsafe, late term abortions, with painkillers.

Investigators described Gosnell’s clinic as a “house of horrors,” with furniture stained with blood, body parts and fetuses in jars, dirty instruments and foul smells. That’s almost as bad as the days when a fraudulent doctor would pull out a dirty knife and folding table to operate on poor women.

The main factor, according to news reports, that abetted Gosnell’s horrific, unlawful practices was the fact that Pennsylvania stopped regularly inspecting abortion clinics 17 years ago, and only resumed them in 2010.

Tamu Francis (pictured), a third grade Brooklyn teacher at P.S. 191 (pictured below), allegedly egged on another child to pummel a “bully” as he stood before his fellow classmates. Now Francis is reportedly facing a $10,000 fine for instigating the school hallway circus, reports the Daily Mail.

“Well that’s what you get,” is what Francis allegedly told the menacing child who was crying after the alleged victim had beaten him up.

Initially, the Board of Education sought to can Francis last year when the incident originally occurred,  but after examining her spotless 13-year record as a teacher, they made the decision to fine her instead.

According to reports, Francis made the victim attack his assailant, after she saw the bully on top of the other child during a brawl on the school’s corridor floor. Once Francis reportedly pulled the children apart, she allegedly made her “serves you right” speech before instructing the victim to fight back.

Francis was also supposedly overheard uttering to one of her students, “When you act like a dog, you get treated like a dog,” said Lisa Brogan, the arbitrator who presided over Francis’ termination hearing.

Francis denied all of the allegations against her, saying that she was merely guilty of teaching the bully a lesson. The teaching veteran defended her actions by alleging that when she said, “How would you like it if [he] was to hit you back?” the victim took her words literally and began throwing punches out of the blue.  Francis claims that she did not have a chance to protect the bully.

Brogan, however, did not believe Francis because of her failure to report the violence to her superiors.

The behavior is extremely disturbing…. At best, it was a horribly misguided  attempt to teach a lesson about bullying,’ Brogan wrote. “She [Francis] exhibited extremely poor judgment and made an enormous blunder by trying to mete out a certain brand of justice for the class bully.”
