As previously reported by NewsOne, on the morning of Monday, April 20,  Kiera mixed some household chemicals inside of an 8 oz. bottle of water. The top flew off the bottle and a cloud of smoke erupted.

There was no damage caused and no one was injured, but Kiera was led away in handcuffs and faced possible charges of “possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device.”

“She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don’t think she meant to ever hurt anyone,” principal Ron Pritchard told WTSP. “She wanted to see what would happen [when the chemicals mixed] and was shocked by what it did. Her mother is shocked, too.”

Kiera was expelled, served a 10-day suspension  and will have to complete her diploma in an expulsion program.

Hickam, whose memoir, Rocket Boys, was turned into a feature film called October Sky, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, had a similar experience to Kiera.

One scene in the film reenacts him being led away from his high school in handcuffs after experimenting with a rocket.

“I think she will feel right at home [at ASA],” Hickam says, “because she will be with other students just like her who are intensely interested in science and space.”

Kiera has accepted the scholarship and is looking forward to the experience, according to her mother, Marie Wilmot, who works at the Florida Industrial and Phosphate Research Institute:

“Kiera is a bright, imaginative young lady who loves science, technology, engineering and math – and she also loves music and art. In today’s terminology, they would refer to it as STEAM, which is the STEM field with the arts added in. Kiera joined her middle school Robotics Team, which is where her love of robotics began. She is very excited at this opportunity and is intrigued by Mr. Hickam’s story. We have ordered the movie October Sky and will be checking out his books. She would like to speak with Mr. Hickam and would like to meet him in person someday.”

As previously reported by NewsOne, the State Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon that no formal charges will be filed and she will not be prosecuted as they had initially planned to do.

Now, Kiera’s attorney, Larry Hardaway,  is focused on getting her arrest record expunged and getting her back into Bartow High School.

“…we’re still in negotiation, said Hardaway.  “I’m going to probably have more contact with them this afternoon.  I’m trying to get them to give me some firm commitment as to the direction that they’re going to take and then we’re going to then involve ourselves in that direction in hoping to get it done.”

Appearing on the Tom Joyner Morning Show in her first national interview since the traumatizing event, Kiera told Roland Martin that she’s scared to do science now, but still plans to major in technology engineering when she goes to college.

When co-host Sybil Wilkes told Kiera not to give up on her dreams and to “get back up on that bicycle and ride again, girl.”

Kiera said some words that we can all live by:

“I’m going to get off the bicycle and try the unicycle.”

You go, Kiera! We’re all so proud of you!

Don’t get me wrong, I respect my elders and all but Natalie Cole needs to find a seat and sit down.

Instead of the legendary singer being happy for the new “American Idol” winner, she took to social media to complain about Candice Glover’s unforgettable duet on the finale show.

Apparently Ms. Cole was not pleased that the 23-year-old sang her 1975 hit “Inseparable” with former “Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson.

“Make no mistake…”Inseparable” was NOT originally recorded by Jennifer Hudson, but by ME…. American Idol ought to be ashamed of themselves….I am seriously offended,” she wrote on her Facebook a page.

And if that wasn’t enough, moments later she took to her Twitter account to put the icing on the cake.

“@AmericanIdol ought to be ashamed of themselves! I’m seriously offended! #Idol #Idolfinale,” she posted.

It’s very seldom that we can say an artist had an errorless performance, but Candice and Jennifer’s duet was damn near as close to perfect as it gets. These girls can sang so it appears that Cole is just hating.

One of her followers also disagreed. “Get real, and let someone else have their moment. If u recorded it first so be it – but u don’t need to rain on a parade,” they wrote in response.

Accoding to the network, “Pastors of L.A.” “will give viewers a candid and revealing look at six boldly different and world renowned mega-pastors in Southern California, who are willing to share diverse aspects of their lives, from their work in the community and with their parishioners to the very large and sometimes provocative lives they lead away from the pulpit.”

Looks like Ms. McCoy is trying the first lady thing again. Hopefully, second time’s a charm!

The man accused of killing a 14-year-old Brooklyn teen did so because she allegedly told him she was pregnant with his child and refused to have an abortion, according to the New York Daily News.

Christian Ferdinand, 20, admitted to killing Shaniesha Forbes Thursday, officials said. He is charged with homicide by asphyxiation. Authorities arrested him in Maine Wednesday.

Despite Ferdinand’s pregnancy claims, the city’s medical examiner noted Forbes wasn’t pregnant at the time of her death. His alleged words and the official findings set off Forbes’ cousin.

“You had the courage and the balls to kill her but you couldn’t go to the pharmacy to buy a pregnancy test to find out if it was true?” Kerri Ann Thomas said in Brooklyn Federal Court Thursday. “That makes no sense.”

Forbes’ body was found naked and charred on Gerritsen Beach Jan. 6. She had run away from home earlier that month, saying she was going to school. Ferdinand smothered her to death in his cousin’s Nostrand Avenue apartment after she decided against abortion, officials claim.

He then kept Forbes’ body in a suitcase for two days before dumping it at the beach. Ferdinand tried setting the body ablaze, but the fire extinguished before he could do so. The New York medical examiner ruled Shaniesha’s death homicide by asphyxiation in April after the office found that her “lungs did not contain soot, proving that she was killed before being burned on her legs, arms and hands.”

Ferdinand allegedly told police he met Forbes through Facebook and had sexual relations with her.

Shaniesha’s mother, Sandra Price, 40, said she knew her daughter was dating, but didn’t know the age of the boyfriend. “They even showed me his picture… I had never seen him,” Price said.

Kerri Ann Thomas, Shaniesha’s cousin, said that if she and the family had known Forbes was dating a 20-year-old, they would’ve stopped the relationship.

“We would have ended it right there,” she said. “There’s no reason he should be in a relationship with a 14-year-old. You have nothing in common. There’s nothing you should even be talking about.”

Mo’Nique (pictured) has never been shy about celebrating her large figure.

Her autobiography title “Skinny Women Are Evil: Notes Of A Big Girl In A Small-Minded World” makes this obvious. But recently, the actress has lost 80 pounds through a rigorous exercise regimen. And she’s sharing her progress with her Twitter followers.

In a recent Hot 97 interview, the “Precious” actor said she posts her exercise images to motivate others to achieve their weight-loss goals without any shortcuts:

“I tweet every morning. Because I want women to see – especially us big women – that you don’t have to let them cut you and suck it out. You don’t have to let them staple you up. You don’t have to let them give you a pill. You don’t have to let them put a band around your organs.”

She started getting serious about her size after winning her 2010 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. And from the looks of it, you can definitely see results. According to Mo’Nique, she’s already gone down a few dress sizes. “The weight right now, when I got on a scale two weeks ago, was 218. My goal is between 190 and 200.”

A casual look at her Twitter page reveals more about her workout routine. One Tweet, posted earlier today, reads: “Hey my loves. Just arrived in LA. Will get my sit-ups in, in about an hour. Keep pushing, so you can keep living. Love ya’ll for real.”

Another implores her followers to get sweatin’:

“Please be sure to get in your sit-ups and your steps. The more active we are, the stronger our hearts get. The better our lives become.”
