LINCOLN PARK, Mich. — The woman who police said robbed at least five banks in metro Detroit is in police custody.

Investigators said thanks to the public’s help and bank security systems, they received a tip call that the serial robber was a 32-year-old woman who lived in Wyandotte.

On Tuesday evening, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a home on 23rd Street in Wyandotte and arrested a woman.

Police said they obtained evidence linking the woman in the home to the multiple robberies.

The woman is being held at the Wyandotte Police Department pending formal charges.

Police said the woman robbed four banks in downriver communities last week and then a bank in Ferndale on Monday.

“It was very unusual the way this happened. It wasn’t your stereotypical bank robbery,” said Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson.

The woman entered the Charter One Bank in Ferndale around 12:30 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money.

While she fled with an undisclosed amount of money, the dye pack exploded on her, police said.

Police had said they believed she was likely stained with a reddish pink-colored dye.

Wilson said she was wearing dark clothing and dark glasses.

“Typically you don’t see small-sized women going to the bank and doing the robberies,” said Wilson. “If she sees herself (on TV) she should just turn herself in.”
