LACEY JAMESThe Detroit Mercy Titans showed their recruiting reach in the state of Michigan on Sunday, earning a verbal commitment Wayland Union (Mich.) 2015 power forward Lacey James, who announced his decision on Twitter.

Although, he has his senior year ahead of him, James apparently feels that Detroit Mercy is the best place for him. He chose to commit to the Titans over Toledo and Western Michigan, who he also held offers from, not to mention the fact that he was consistently earning interest from others programs like Lehigh, Northeastern, Northern Illinois, Wichita State, Wisconsin.

Nevertheless, James is happy about his decision and I’m sure the Titans are as well. Although, I haven’t had the pleasure of watching this young man play yet, Kyle Mills of the TheDZone.net, had a chance to watch him back in April at the Grand Rapids Storm Classic and he says that James is do-it all type player with good length and athleticism.

“Lacey James does not do 1 thing in particular outstanding, but he does many things very well.” Kyle Mills said on TheDZone.net. “He defends and blocks shots at a high rate, he is tough in the post and is a hyper-active rebounder.  James has really filled out his 6’7 frame since last summer and used it to his advantage this weekend.  He was a terror down on the block with his length and athleticism to add to his now developed strength.  A quick first step and improving mid-range game make James an intriguing prospect moving forward.”

I don’t know about you but that sounds like a true Titan to me and as he continues to get stronger, there is no doubt that he could prove to be the do-it-all type for the Titans, just like former Titan forward Nick Minnerath was for the Titans a few years ago.
