According to Fox 2, volunteers gathered Saturday at Santa Clara and Mendota to cut overgrown weeds and clear away a mountain of trash. Neighbors and staff members at Mumford High School say this is their way of making sure their streets are safer.
The cleanup took place after an armed robbery June 3 near an abandoned home. Police say Joshua Moore, 20, held two young men at gunpoint right near the bus stop. Detroit police spotted the suspect hiding in the tall weeds and arrested him.
The volunteers say they plan to continue their effort block by block and school by school to make the streets safer for everyone.
