    Shanesha Taylor, Mom Who Left Kids In Hot Car, Speaks Out

    Taylor acknowledges that she made a big mistake, and said it was hard to explain to her daughter why she had to be in jail. “I had to explain to her, well, I did something wrong, that’s why I had to go.” But Taylor has received a lot of support, particularly from complete strangers who feel like she’s being punished too harshly. That includes Amanda Bishop, the woman who started that YouCaring fundraiser for Taylor, which raised $114,775. Taylor says she’s grateful for the support, including the financial support, and while it could help her provide better for her kids, it doesn’t change the fact that she doesn’t have them at this time.     Congressional Leaders Join Hands In Moving Capitol Hill Moment

    Congress had a strong moment of unity on Capitol Hill Tuesday. As captured by C-SPAN, a line of members joined hands during the singing of “We Shall Overcome.” House and Senate leaders posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, marking the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.     Trans Woman of Color Murdered And Burned

    Fort Myers police are trying to find the killer of a transgender woman whose body was found burned behind a garbage bin Thursday. Police on Friday identified the victim as Eddie James Owen, 31, but family members said Owen identified as a woman and went by the name Yazmin or Yaz’min Shancez. Fort Myers Police Lt. Jay Rodriguez said they have not determined a cause of death, and are not investigating the homicide as a hate crime. Read more.

    CNN Finds Some Black Democrats Who Voted for GOP Sen. Thad Cochran

    Polls are about to close in Mississippi where Republican Senator Thad Cochran is currently trying to fight off a primary challenge from the tea party-backed Chris McDaniel. CNN’s Dana Bash traveled to Mississippi Tuesday where she confirmed some of McDaniel’s worst fears by finding a handful of African-American Democrats who came out to vote for Cochran. Read more.
