Ouch. Robin Thicke released a new music video for his single “Get Her Back” on Monday, June 23, and it’s downright painful to watch.

The crooner, 37, filmed the visuals to the latest cut off his upcoming album Paula, a tribute to his estranged wife, Paula Patton. As with most of his recent recordings, both the lyrics and the video to “Get Her Back” reference Thicke’s relationship troubles with the actress.

The clip opens with a shot of a text message reading “I kept trying to warn you you were pushing me too far…” before panning to a shot of a shirtless Thicke with blood inexplicably streaming from his nose and on his face.

As the video progresses, more text messages appear, reading, “You drink too much,” “You embarrassed me,” “I can’t make love to you anymore,” and “I don’t even know who you are.”

The lyrics to “Get Her Back” have Thicke singing, “I never should have raised my voice or made you feel so small / I never should have asked you to do anything at all / I should have kissed you longer / I should have held you stronger / And I’ll wait for forever for you to love me again.”

After dating for more than ten years, high school sweethearts Thicke and Patton, now 38, were married in June 2005. The couple shares son Julian, 4, together. Following signs of trouble, they announced their separation in February 2014.

“We will always love each other and be best friends,” they said in February in a statement to Us. “However, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”

In the “Get Her Back” music video, a text message exchange reads “I wrote a whole album about you,” to which another message responds, “I don’t care.” Patton, however, has yet to comment publicly on Thicke’s Paula album. The upcoming recording includes songs titled “Too Little Too Late,” “Still Madly Crazy,” and “Love Can Grow Back.”
