Two carjacking suspects are in serious condition after the car they allegedly stole hit another vehicle, struck a light pole and caught fire during a police chase Monday, according to Warren Police.
The male suspects, a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old from Detroit, produced a handgun, demanding a 38-year-old Eastpointe man turn over the keys to his 2005 Cadillac CTS, wallet and cellphone on Sunday while he was pumping gas at a 7-Eleven at Nine Mile and Schoenherr in Warren, police said.
Warren Police spotted the men in the car around Eight Mile and Dequindre, attempted to stop the vehicle, gave chase but lost sight of the Cadillac around Woodward and Manchester in Highland Park.
The suspects were later found trapped in the the Cadillac, which was on fire after it collided with a 1999 Suburban. Police extinguished the flames and requested firefighter and EMS help. The driver of the Suburban suffered a broken leg.
Detroit Fire personnel were called to free the men from the car.
Police said the officers recovered two handguns from the passenger compartment of the Cadillac.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case.
