A marching band and blaring sirens announced the arrival of Detroit’s newest addition to the public safety fleet.

Ten top-of-the-line ambulances and 15 decked out police cruisers made their way down Woodward Avenue to Hart Plaza.

That’s where top city officials and business leaders gathered to hand over the keys to Detroit’s police chief and fire commissioner.

These vehicles are the first installment of a promised new fleet of ambulances for the city and 100 new police cruisers.

The new public safety vehicles are being donated to the city. Area business leaders, including Roger Penske, donated more than $8 million dollars to pay for them.

The new vehicles are expected to be in rotation starting next week. The remaining ambulances and police cruisers are expected to be added in the next few months.
