Closing Arguments Held In Zimmerman Trial

Since George Zimmerman’s acquittal for the shooting death of 17-year-old Travyon Martin, there have been numerous proposals to boycott the state of Florida. However, the parents of the slain teenager recently stated that they will remain neutral in the matter.

During a news conference at the National Association of Black Journalists, Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton said she and Tracy Martin are taking no stance on the proposed boycott, refusing to support or oppose the idea.

“They have a right to express themselves,” Fulton said of boycotters.

One of the biggest advocates of the boycott is musician and songwriter Stevie Wonder. During a recent concert in Canada, the Wonder said he will not perform in the Sunshine State until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished.

“I decided today that until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” he told the audience. “As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”

“For those that we have lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can’t bring them back,” he added. “[What] we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”

Other celebs who have joined the boycott efforts include Mary Mary, Chaka Khan and Rev. Al Sharpton.
