Known for his gorgeous red carpet gowns seen on celebrities like Octavia Spencer and Vanessa Williams, designer Tadashi Shoji just may be one of my favorite runway shows to watch. Tadashi drew his inspiration from the robes of Russian Orthodox priests with voluminous backs shown on most dress.

“I had something in my head, Russian-themed, so I went there and I made a story,” Shoji said, backstage, before the show. “The Romanov Empire was collapsing and all of the royal princesses were escaping from St. Petersburg disguised in peasant dresses and running to Siberia in the cold, cold winter.”

Silhouettes with drop waists dominated the collection in hues of sapphire, burgundy, blush tones, taupe and snow white. Tadashi gave the tradition long-sleeved gown a remix by adding a sexy embellished sheer panel. But what really caught my eye were the fierce and fiery oxblood and cranberry hues–which are making a sizzling comeback this awards season.

I predict you’ll see plenty of Tadashi on the red carpet at the Oscars this year!
