An explosive federal hate crime case in Mississippi from 2011 has sparked charges against a mob of young Whites who confessed to harassing and assaulting Blacks in the town of Jackson. On Thursday, a sixth member of the group pleaded guilty to charges of a conspiracy to commit a hate crime in federal court, reports the Clarion Ledger.

The death of Black auto plant worker James Craig Anderson (pictured above) was the impetus behind charging 21-year-old Joseph Paul Dominick. The Rankin County man appeared in Jackson’s U.S. District Court yesterday as Judge Carlton Reeves announced the plans to sentence him at a later date.

Dominick, the ex-boyfriend of “American Idol” finalist Skylar Laine (both pictured above), is the sixth man of a group of White men and women to be charged with going into Jackson and attacking groups of Black people with slingshots and bottles.

Dominick’s cohorts, Jonathan Kyle Gaskamp, William Kyle Montgomery, Deryl Dedmon, Dylan Wade Butler, and John Aaron Rice, have all pleaded guilty as well. They were not involved in the death of Anderson, but the curious sport they engaged in by attacking Blacks for fun apparently spelled doom for James Anderson.

The Anderson family said to the Ledger that Dominick’s plea was just the beginning in the larger process of justice.

“It’s not over until the Lord says it’s over. And we are still seeking justice for James Craig Anderson,” said Anderson’s sister Barbara Anderson Young. “We want everybody in jail – those who were there and [those] who weren’t a part of his killing.”
