Galicia Malone (pictured) went in to labor on election day and instead of hightailing it to the hospital, she decided to make one quick painful pit stop at a nearby church to cast her vote for President Barack Obama, reports Fox Chicago News.

The Dolton, Ill., resident arrived at her polling place at 8:30 a.m., the height of the mad rush, and when she entered New Life Church, she informed the election workers that she was in labor with contractions coming five minutes apart and needed to sit down.

The 21-year-old Mom-to-be, who began having labor pains at around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning and whose baby girl was not due until November 10th, was excited about not only being a first-time Mom but also being a first-time voter.  She told Fox Chicago News, “This is my first baby, a girl, and I wanted to make a good impression,” Malone said. “I want to have a story to tell her.”

Despite Malone’s distress as her condition became increasingly uncomfortable, election Judge Kija Bozeman told WLS-TV that “she [Malone] was actually happy about it [voting before she went in to full labor].  It was exciting for her.”

Election employees helped to usher Malone through the voting process as quickly as possible so that she could get on to more pressing matters like having her baby.  Those who witnessed Malone’s determination and poise despite her urgent condition stood in awe of her.

“She was already in pain. You know, because I was noticing,” said Precinct 75 captain Will Bobo to WLS-TV. “And when she left, she seemed to have more of a stress on her face than she did going in.”

Why did Malone cast her first-ever ballot for Barack Obama?  “I just agree with more of his policies than with [Mitt] Romney‘s,” she said. “I grew up on Sesame Street and PBS,” she told Fox Chicago News. “He wants to cut that. What will my daughter grow up on?”
