Standards create the criteria that govern who and what we allow into our lives. These criteria should be established from the outset. The standards that you set or fail to set for that matter are an extension of you; a direct reflection of the way you view yourself. They are a portrait of your self esteem, easily visible to the men that are pursuing your attention. The standards that you set today determine the quality of your relationships tomorrow. Yes, they are that important. Living life without standards is like attempting to drive a vehicle without putting your hands on the wheel. There is no telling where you will end up and how you will fare along the way. That is no way to live.
Simply put YOU are the most important person in your life. When you recognize that your life is your responsibility it will liberate you to the point of empowerment. We become powerful when we realize that we ARE powerful. It is your heart and your feelings, shouldn’t you be in control?

Often times the quality of life that is the most challenging to attain is also the most rewarding. The means are always justified in the end. With that said, setting high standards for the men whom you allow into your life will be taxing at times. But at the end it is worth it. Your physical and spiritual prosperity are all worth it. Allow such thoughts to lend comfort and assurance as you navigate through the dating scene. Let them encourage you as you raise your standards to match the level of your expectations. Both are equally important. They are married to one another. To expect to be treated a certain way and not have predetermined standards in place to assure such treatment is wishful thinking at its finest.
To conclude this article I wish to include an excerpt from my book If All Men Are Dogs, Then Women You Hold the Leash” that really drives home the point I yearn to make here,
“When it comes to your life we men can only go as far as you let us, PERIOD. Don’t allow me to treat you any kind of way. Don’t settle for me not being monogamous in our relationship. Don’t give me your body without first proving that I am worthy of such a gift. Please do not surrender your heart to me without being absolutely sure that I can be trusted with it. Please stop sleeping with me on the first date. Make me respect you. Make me work. Make me sweat, and most of all, please make me be a man before you ever concede to becoming my woman. Live life. Love life and Give life, from my heart to yours”.
