Guys, listen up — President Barack Obama has some Valentine’s Day advice for you.

“And let me start with a quick public service announcement to all the gentlemen out there: Today is Valentine’s Day,” he said Tuesday in Washington to laughter. “Do not forget. I speak from experience here. It is important that you remember this. And go big. That’s my advice.”

The president then delivered prepared remarks urging Congress to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits.

Obama recently crooned the opening words to the Rev. Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem in January. “I…I’m so in love with you,” he sang.

Contrary to the President’s advice to “go big,” First Lady Michelle Obama said last year that the two “don’t make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day” since her birthday is January 17 and Christmas is a also a few weeks before.

Republicans also had their own Valentine’s Day messages. The Republican National Committee created a website with Valentine’s Day cards. Some featured Obama with messages such as “I wouldn’t say you’re better off this Valentine’s Day than you were four years ago,” “If this was a successful year for you, there’s a 5% tax on this card” and “It’s not you, it’s me.”
