The city of Detroit will strictly enforce emergency curfew and gas can ordinances during the days surrounding Halloween.
Emergency curfew for all minors
The emergency curfew will go into effect on October 29 and will be in place until November 1. The curfew makes it unlawful for a minor; under eighteen years of age, to be out of their residence unsupervised.
The curfew hours are as follows:
- October 29 from 6 p.m. to October 30 6 a.m.
- October 30 from 6 p.m. to October 31 6 a.m.
- October 31 from 8 p.m. to November 1 6 a.m. for youth 15 and under
- October 31 from 9 p.m. to November 1 6 a.m. for youth 16 and 17
All minors in violation of the curfew will be issued a ticket and go before a judge. The parent or guardian may also receive a parental responsibility violation ticket.
Gas can ordinance
A second emergency ordinance will prohibit persons from dispensing fuel into a portable container in the city of Detroit. It will also prohibit individuals from carrying fuel or any other flammable liquid in a portable container.
This ordinance will go into effect on October 27 and last through October 31 at midnight.
Violation of the ordinance is a misdemeanor offence and violators are subject to a fine of up to $500 or 90 days in jail.
The following emergency situations exempt persons 18 years of age or older; a stalled vehicle; heating a residence; emergency generator.
