The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the Southfield Freeway, M-39, will fully reopen 15 days earlier than scheduled.
The Southfield Freeway is set to reopen on Monday, October 3.
M-39 has been shut down in both directions from the Lodge Freeway interchange in Southfield, south to Grand River in Detroit. Crews worked to overhaul a three mile stretch of road and 24 bridges from McNichols to Northwestern.
The closure began back in May. This is the second time the opening has been moved up. Earlier officials said the freeway would open in the middle of October after it was originally scheduled to be closed through the month of October.
The $80 million construction project helped to reconstruct roads, some of which had not been fixed since the 1960’s.
