• Stars Who Took The “Soul Train” To Success

    “Soul Train” is the longest running show in American history and has helped showcase and develop many of America’s top musicians, dancers and celebrities and has earned a place in the Smithsonian Museum. Here are some stars who have taken the “Soul Train” to success.

    Fred “Rerun” Berry

    Before he showcased his humor and dancing skills on the TV series “What’s Happening,” Rerun was first noticed as a dancer on “Soul Train.” Berry would later be diagnosed with diabetes become a baptist minister before dying from a stroke in 2003.

    Rosie Perez

    Before Rosie Perez starred in “Do The Right Thing,” she was a dancer on “Soul Train.” Today, Perez is still acting and recently sued Law And Order SVU after she was injured on set.

    Shalamar

    The R&B group, Shalamar, got their start as backup singers and dancers on “Soul Train” when Don Cornelius introduced Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniel to singer Howard Hewett. Watley would go on to have a successful career in both music and fashion. She was honored by Billboard Magazine with a lifetime achievement award and was heavily featured in the historic Black issue of Italian Vogue. Other member, Jeffrey Daniel would go on to choreograph for Michael Jackson and have a successful career on Broadway.

    Nick Cannon

    Nick Cannon got his start in the entertainment industry as a dancer on “Soul Train.” Since then he has gone on the solidifying his presence in American TV, movies, radio and music. Cannon is the head of successful cable network Teen Nick and is married to mega-star, Mariah Carey.

    Shemar Moore

    Moore got his start as Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless” but came into prominence as the third host of “Soul Train” Today Moore stars in the popular CBS show, “Criminal Minds”
