DETROIT — The Techno Festival isn’t all about loud thumps of music vibrating through the air. It is a big boost for the city of Detroit.

Beginning Saturday thousands of people will be shoulder-to-shoulder dancing and celebrating music in Hart Plaza.

Sam Fotias is the operating manager for the movement. He said, “It is significant for us because this is where we grew up. I went to Cass Tech High School.”

Sam and 2 of his close friends from metro Detroit starting hosting parties nearly 2 decades ago. They formed Paxahau Promotions Group in 1998.

Fotias said, “There’s a dynamic between all of us in regards to the fact that it is not a corporation – it is a group of friends. We consider the city a partner and ourselves as liaisons to present a world class event to a world class city.”

Last year nearly 100,000 people filled Hart Plaza. 40,000 of them were visitors from outside Michigan.

The tech movement is not just about music – but techno going high tech.

There will be free wireless internet, the music will be live streamed and a special new iPhone app with a ‘Now Playing’ feature to see who is on stage.

The Movement Electronic Music Festival begins Saturday and noon and runs through Memorial Day.
