A new study has confirmed what some have suspected: when it comes to sex, men look at a women’s body. But when men are looking for a wife, they look for a pretty face.
Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have found that men are instinctively attracted to women’s curvy bodies for a “no strings” sexual relationship, but pay more attention to a woman’s face if they’re looking to settle down and start a family.
This is because a woman’s face provides strong clues to her “reproductive value”, according to the researchers.
MEN TELL US WHAT YOU THINK:
The study – published in the Evolution and Human Behaviour science journal – researched the reactions of 375 men and women who were asked to consider dating a member of the opposite sex whose face or body had been obscured.
The Telegraph reported that volunteers were asked whether they would choose either the member of the opposite sex with a pretty face or a curvy body.
The tests showed that men were much more likely to choose someone with a curvy body for a date, while they might pick a pretty face for a longer-term relationship.
Women meanwhile were consistently drawn to facial features – whether they were interested in a fling or picking an ideal husband.
“Both the body and face can provide cues as to a woman’s reproductive value and current fertility, but this study revealed men go for bodily cues more when looking for a short-term mate,” the report stated.
