DETROIT – The Detroit police officer’s response to the arrest of a car chase suspect Thursday is under investigation. Chief Warren Evans say his department is checking to make sure everything was done by the book.

It appears from the video, one officer clubbed the suspect with his baton several time before cuffing him.

The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality has this to say: “The lives of citizens were endangered by both the fleeing motorist and the chasing officers. It sickens us more to see that some officers have a need to wield a baton on someone’s back even after they’ve been handcuffed.”

Coalition spokesperson Ron Scott also says the group will conduct its own investigation.
